Yellow is usually the slowest of the four to empty, which makes storage the thing that matters most about it. Toner keeps well but not indefinitely: leave a cartridge in its sealed bag, in the box, somewhere dry and at room temperature, and lay it flat rather than standing it on end so the powder does not pack against one side. A cartridge that has spent two years in a hot loft can clump, and the first sign is patchy coverage that a shake only partly fixes.
