Which ink does the HP ENVY 6075 use?

The HP ENVY 6075 takes the HP 67 black and HP 67 tri-color, plus the XL version of each. Four parts in total, one of the smallest cartridge sets HP ships.

XL is the right buy on this printer, on a family that is expensive whichever size you choose. The HP 67XL black is rated at 240 pages for $35.99, which is 15.00c per page, against 19.16c for the standard HP 67 black at 120 pages for $22.99. Color does the same: the 67XL tri-color comes out at 18.50c per page where the standard 67 tri-color is 23.99c. Either way this is an expensive printer to feed, and if you print more than occasionally the ink will cost you more than the printer did.

The 6075 sits in the Dynamic Security class, so an HP firmware update can start refusing cartridges without a genuine HP chip. Given what genuine HP 67 ink costs per page, third-party is tempting on exactly this kind of model, which makes it the one where you should switch off automatic firmware updates first and buy from a seller who states which firmware their chips are current with. The complaint that brings most people to this model is a tri-color cartridge reading empty while it still feels heavy. On a combined cartridge the printer stops as soon as any one of the three colors is exhausted, so a run of magenta-heavy pages ends the whole unit early. That is how the design works rather than a fault. If pages come out blank or streaked instead, the nozzles have dried: run a printhead cleaning from the HP software, and if that fails, blot the cartridge nozzle plate with a damp lint-free cloth and let it dry fully before reinstalling.
