HP 910 cyan · standard

The HP 910 cyan is the standard yield cyan for four HP OfficeJet Pro all in ones: the 8015e, the 8020, the 8025e and the 8035e, all from 2019 and 2020.

Buying the standard size here is close to a mistake. The 910 cyan is rated at about 315 pages and lists near $13.99, about 4.44 cents a page. The 910XL cyan prints about 825 pages for around $18.99, about 2.30 cents, so five dollars more gets you well over twice the ink. The black is worse again: about 8.33 cents a page for the standard 910 against about 5.45 cents for the 910XL. Black costs more per page than any of the colours on this printer, in both sizes.

Firmware is the thing to check before you order a compatible, and on these models there are two separate locks. All four are on our lockout list because they shipped with Dynamic Security, which can start rejecting non-HP chips after an update. Three of them also carry the letter e in the model name, which means they were sold as HP Plus printers. If HP Plus was activated during setup, the printer requires genuine HP ink for the rest of its life, and that is not something a firmware rollback or a better compatible chip gets around. The plain 8020 has no HP Plus option, so it is the one of the four where third-party ink is a reasonable bet.

If a genuine 910 cyan is not recognised, look at the contacts before you blame the cartridge. Pull it out, check the orange protective tape came away cleanly, wipe the copper strip with a dry lint-free cloth and push it back until it clicks. Cyan that prints faint rather than not at all is usually a different problem: the print head on these machines is fixed in the printer, and a colour that has gone weeks without being used dries in its channel. Print the nozzle check first and read which block has gaps.
