Which ink does the HP DeskJet 3755 use?

The HP DeskJet 3755 runs on the HP 65 family: a black and a tri-color cartridge, each sold in a standard size and as the HP 65XL. Nothing else fits, and there is no separate photo cartridge.

Unlike some of its DeskJet siblings, this one rewards the high yield cartridges plainly. The standard HP 65 black is rated at 120 pages for around $19.99, roughly 16.66 cents a page, while the 65XL black prints about 300 pages for $36.99, roughly 12.33 cents. The gap on colour is wider still: 22.99 cents a page for the standard tri-color at 100 pages, against 13.33 cents for the 65XL at 300 pages. Put both together and a page of black plus a page of colour costs 39.65 cents on standard cartridges and 25.66 cents on XL, which is about 35 percent less for the same printing.

Those are high figures whichever size you buy, and they are the reason the firmware question matters here. The 3755 is on our lockout list as a Dynamic Security model, so a compatible HP 65 that works today can be refused after a printer update. That does not make compatibles unusable on this machine, but it does mean buying one or two at a time from a seller who guarantees current firmware compatibility, rather than stocking up on a multipack that a later update could leave you unable to use.

The head is part of the cartridge on this printer, so a print quality fault belongs to the cartridge and leaves with it. If black goes patchy, run the nozzle check from HP Smart or the printer's tools menu before buying anything: a solid but pale block usually means the cartridge is genuinely running down, while gaps and missing lines point at dried ink in the head that one cleaning cycle often clears. A 3755 that sits unused for weeks at a time runs into the second problem often. Printing something in colour every week or so keeps the nozzles clear and uses less ink than the cleaning cycles do.
