HP 962 yellow · standard

The HP 962 yellow is the standard size yellow for the OfficeJet Pro 9015e and OfficeJet Pro 9025e in our database. It is sold as a single tank alongside the cyan and magenta rather than as part of a colour cartridge.

The set price is the number to look at on this family. Three standard colours come to $92.97 and print at 4.43c a page. Three XL colours come to $149.97 and print at 3.12c. You pay about $57.00 more up front for roughly 29 percent off every colour page, which is worth having on a machine that prints enough to finish them and not on one that does not.

A yellow tank tends to be the spare that sits longest, because document printing uses less of it than of the other colours. Store it sealed in its foil, upright, at ordinary room temperature and away from a radiator or a sunny windowsill. Ink dries in cartridges left open to the air, and the date printed on the box is about the ink rather than the electronics.

Both printers are on our firmware lockout list as HP+ models running Dynamic Security. A printer enrolled in HP+ at setup accepts Original HP cartridges only, permanently. On one where HP+ was declined a compatible can work, so long as the printer is not left free to update itself.

Missing yellow is easy to misread. Greens go blue and warm tones go flat, which people often blame on the paper or the screen. Print a nozzle check on plain white paper and look at the yellow block in good light before you decide the tank is empty, because a blocked nozzle in the printer's own head looks exactly the same on the page and a new cartridge will not cure it.
